I pulled a pair of older Lionel F3's (18117) out of their boxes....and wasn't happy with what I found. I think a youngin went exploring! Anyways... outside of some loose screws, I have a torsion spring I haven't a clue as to where it goes. And I may be labeling the part incorrectly. It's one of those circular springs with two 'tabs': one sticking 90° straight out, the other 90° straight up.
Can someone point me to a illustrated parts diagram that might indicate where it belongs?

No service literature that I can find for those units. The only place I see coil springs in similar units is for the magnetic couplers with the round armature tab, and for the truck mounting bolts. Can't see any coil springs anywhere else.

The rear trucks were detached and the spring was laying in the box. I removed the front trucks but no coil spring there. So, I'm stumped.

Can't say I recognize the spring. It looks to be designed to hold 2 parts in line with each other and limit their rotation with respect to each other.
