WOW someone got a good deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's insane. Unreal someone would pay that, but it's their money.
Yikes!
Amazing what some people are willing to pay for those rare original/mint items. A few years ago, I saw a pair of 3-rail Atlas Baby Ruth wood-side reefers go for close to $450.
I suppose some folks get so obsessed with getting a certain item that the cost doesn't really come into play. A lot of nicer additions to the layout can be had for that price.
Washington County: Twice as big as Rhode Island, regardless of the tide.
And no whitewalls.
Shoulda put that $1600 towards an eye exam.
But it IS a really nice little car.

That is more than the trade in value of my real car!
The dealer could’ve at least thrown in some hubcaps or window tint!
See the Western Pacific 6464 boxcar thread from a few weeks ago.
As with that thread, this is one of the rarest colors of the cars for the auto loader car, as Railrunnin mentioned with his reference to Robin's Egg Blue.
Anyone selling a Natty Boh Atlas car for what they paid for it? I thought not... Just a matter of economic scale here, same principles.

I look it at as a percentage of income question. If you a high income, what is 1600 dollars to you?

I'm happy for the winning bidder who got an item they want at a price they were willing to pay.
I will simply note that I've purchased 1:1 scale motor vehicles for less, and leave it at that.

Geez! ....and, I suspect a 55 Ford of this era was no power brakes or power steering......and, AM radio only!

It will probably hold its price better than the next Big Boy release.
it was garage kept, low miles, only driven by a little old lady on sundays to church. so the buyer got a great deal😂

Yeah, the consignor (or his heirs) and the auction house...

Probably true. But in 10 years or so, who is going to want either one for more than a tiny fraction of the current price?
