I have a 10 and an 8E that I am restoring. Both have wheel defects. I discovered this after testing the motor in the 10, finding it ran well and placing the engine on the track. Didn't work, the wheel flanges sat on the outside of the rails. It seems that the cast wheel centers had expanded outwards forcing the rims to be wide of the gauge.
I know the fix and I'm ordering MEW wheel sets. But I'd like to know something about the cause of this kind of defect. I thougth I had seen something about this, but even with advanced search I couldn't find it. Maybe I read that on a different forum.
So lr\et's hear from anyone who can fill in the story on what happened with these wheels.
