It seems this buzzing has started in my switch (more than one). I don't think it should buzz other than when the switch gets activated. Here the train wants to just go straight and the switch buzzes. Have I developed a short someplace? Is it just an "old" switch?

This is normal behavior. There is no provision to cut off the voltage of the non-derailing circuit. As a consequence, the solenoid is activated any time the outer rails are bridged by an axle, even if the switch is already properly aligned.
And note that one should not park a train on an 1122 style switch as it will continually energize and burn out the coil or melt the frame.
