Lionel # 28026, does anyone have any knowledge/history on this engine??

Yes I have that engine.  It was cataloged but can't remember which one.

I don't have 1999/2000 catalogs but have a friend who does. He looked and found nothing??

A listing on Grybotski Trains says 2000 Catalog.  I didn't find it in the 2000 Vol. 2 online catalog.  Maybe it's in Vol.1 (not online?).

I think you're right.  It came out at the same time as the Centennial SD90 I believe.  I put a ERR cruise in mine circa 2009.

Is this about the catalog, or about finding traction tires?

Traction tires from a similar engine should fit.

It’s in the 1999, volume 2 catalog, listed as #6-28020, but a note said, “year 2000 delivery”. It’s possible that Lionel changed the catalog number upon release. It also noted that it would be available in both command and traditional versions.

I have a Lionel NYC "Baby Pacific" #4929, also from 1999.  Here is what I found... try part #6308071206.

Ran to my lhs, the engine is in the 1999 Volume 2. It was offered conventional and command, command was #28026.

This catalog has it as engine and tender only. However there is a matching caboose available.

I have the engine and the caboose. Makes for a nice little set. I usually run it with some of my other Lionel cars.

I bought engine, tender and caboose along with 8 additional cars. All the cars are Lionel themed and orange/blue. Very nice looking!!

It's not my best smoker but it's ok.

I need to open mine and take a look. It smokes more by accident than on purpose. A very light wisp at best!

Opened it up, it's a puffer. Will be replaced with a fan driven unit... Looks like I have 2 engines getting upgrades now!
