I have a early version PW Lionel 1666 loco.

When I turn it over and look at the alignment of the motor/ wheels to the body, the motor is skewed to the left (the cab end). I removed the rear truck and as I look into the body I see the round cross bar that is in between the motor sides. This cross bar has the clearance hole that the screw goes thru and that screw  secures the motor to the body. The clearance hole is not in the center of this round bar, it to the right of center maybe 3/16" or so.

The front end of the motor appears centered in the body.

My questions would be-

1. Why isn't the hole centered?

2. Does anyone else's PW 1666 have an offset motor?

Thank you.

The motor is supposed to be off center. The drive wheels with the gears are wider than the non geared drivers. This means that, to get the body of the loco to sit centered over the rails, the motor has to be offset slightly, away from the geared side. So the mounting screw is centered, with respect to the boiler casting, but offset, with respect to the motor.

If I remember correctly, the front of the casting is notched to receive the front of the motor, so there would not be a screw there. Whoever had it apart last must have tried to center the front of the motor in the casting, but it should be offset there, too. It should not be too hard to loosen the rear screw and reposition the front of the motor so that the engine rides parallel to the rails.

NICKAIX,

I took your advice last night and now the motor is in line with the body!!!

It seems there are 2 slightly different positions the front of the motor can lock into. One is right and one is wrong.

Thank you very much!

easy fix, easy fix!!

isn't it very satisfying when something works the way it is suppose to???
