In 1947 I got my first Lionel train. It was a 224 set. My father had given my uncle a 1700E in 1936. When I got my first train set my uncle gave me the train my dad had given him. It was red & chrome. I still have my 224 and the 2026 my father gave me but somehow I lost the 1700E? Not sure how because I use to run it allot.

I was on EBay looking for some parts for my layout a saw a 1700E at what seemed a good price. I bought it and it's allot of fun. It started me into really enjoying the prewar 1700E's. Sense then I have gotten 4 1700E's, Two are restored while one was just to nice to mess with so I'm leaving it alone. My newest 1700 is currently sitting on the bench waiting for parts and time to do the restore. I'm doing red & chrome.

I've got the cars and material to do another Lionel 1700 restore project. The power unit on this one is very different to any Lionel 1700 I've ever seen. The opening is huge. But I think all will still work out OK. The 1702 observation car showed up today. It's much better than I thought it would be. I almost hate to strip it down. However it's part of what I'm doing. I love taking these beat up Lionel trains and putting them back to a better state!1700 No. 4 restore project 21700 No. 4 restore project 1
