This engine doesn't have traction tires, at least the ones I've seen. It pretty much shares the same characteristics of the 18009 NYC Mohawk, except for the different tender.
It's an alright puller in terms of AC motored Lionel big steam of the time, but definitely not up to heavy duty compared to current can motored equipment.
Hey Mikado---thank you very much---saved me a few bucks!
Let me add:
it will pull the entire Heavyweight train that was special made for it from K-Line cars: Express reefer, baggage, combine, chair car, diner, Pullman, observation. On a flat surface, it will pull them around surprisingly tight curves just fine down to 042/045. It's grades on the tight curves that defeat the engine.
The limiting factor is NOT the motor but the lack of grip--without the tires, it slips.
So if you have a flat road or nearly so, the engine is quite good. Do not expect it to climb mountains pulling a long train.
I don't know how much the one you're looking at costs, but I wouldn't sell mine for a lot more than I paid for it.
Let me say this. I bought one new, paid a fortune. Sold it almost new for very, very little.
One extremely nice looking engine and set of cars. Have not run nine, but a friend has one he says runs and pulls well. If the price is right - you won't be sorry. I will consider selling mine 3 days after hell freezes over.

I was not aware of these cars. Do you have product numbers and date of production? This is a beautiful engine. Matching cars would make a great train. Pat B.
