Hello O scale world ...80 years ago   Europe is in flames and America is hosting two World Fairs (NYC and SF ..Treasure Island) .... Railroads were in their prime showing off rail travel and the major role they played to the American way of life.  Most the railroads had exhibitions of real trains and model layouts .   Steam still ruled the rails but diesels were creeping in and were a big hit with their flashy bright colors and streamlined designs.    The EMC E2  was the latest and greatest jointly owned by the CN&W , SP and UP ... Heralds for each adored the nose .

CN&W   and SP both had O scale layouts ..running models of the City of San Francisco pulled by the E2 ... (UP also had a layout with the C O S ..but it was HO gauge ..first major use of HO in a public display ..but it's HO so who cares)  .    Here are the patterns used to make the 1939 fair E2's ....in glorious 17/64ths ...... ( sadly sitting on 1/4" scale trucks ..see how little they are?) ....so where are the engines that were made from this pattern today ????

Any 17/64ths diesel  trucks out there ?

Cheers Carey

I see a problem: a "match plate" would have a side, and opposite that, a core, so the casting would be shell-like.  These look like one side of the match plate was cut loose and joined with its mate.

Otherwise, this would be easy, even for hobbyists with a furnace.

Visit Bob Stevenson - he is an expert on this stuff, and has a museum full of match plates.

Hello all... rivets rivets ...we don't need no stinking rivets ...

Bob ...I'll see Bob Stevenson at the March meet and ask him ...   here is a view of the back of the two halves ... with 3D printing today ..creating a mold to fit inside to get the thin walls for casting  should not be rocket science ..just

scan and scale down a bit , press button .......  or something like that ..cheers Carey

PS there is another bit found ..for the pilot  !
