I have the Railking GP20 which on initial startup is always in the reverse direction. I have the control direction set in the remote to F/R which works once the loco is started but I have to switch from reverse to forward after each startup. I have tried resetting to factory defaults without any success. My other Railking locos startup in the forward direction so there is something weird about this particular loco. Any sugggestions

Did you do a factory reset with DCS? G
Yes, I did a factory reset using the DCS remote.
Does the directional lighting match the direction of motion? If the front headlight turns on and it goes backward, either the motors are wired backwards or the shell is backwards on the frame. The manual says there may only be 4 screws holding it on, so it could be possible to put it on the wrong way.
If the lighting and direction of travel match, then its programmed to run that way and probably needs a total reprogram or a new file to force it to run short hood forward.
Its likely programmed this way on purpose, given the N&Ws practice of running long hood forward.
Yes, Directional lighting OK. How is a reprogram done?
if it was a ns road name we had engines that some were long nose forward some was short nose forward not sure if mth follow ns direction or not
Then it is meant to run that way. If you want to go short hood forward, you need to swap motor leads position on both motors. Move HL and Coupler connector to opposite ends. Then forward will be in the direction of short hood. G
