I recently acquired the above, NIB, on E Bay.

The powered unit is #6-8766

All looks pristine, except for the Basic Power Truck, which shows wear.  Also, the wheels are slipping on the rails.
The tire grips are easy to replace, but I was wondering if this set is from 1977, why it doesn’t have magnetraction. I hope new tires will solve that.

The EBay seller is very nice and will make me whole for any costs to get this right

MagneTraction had just been reintroduced the year prior on one steam locomotive, the 8600, the Budd cars were not high on the priority list as the sets were only run in three unit trains.  The basic motor block had been used w/ tires since 1973 on F3s, 1977 was the year for the reintroduced GG1 which was the first non-steam reintroduction of Magnetraction.  More steam(2065 type) in 1978 and then the FM in 1979 were fitted w/ Magnetraction.

It took a while for this particular motor block to be re-assigned with MagneTraction, I think it was 1984 with the 8477.

The 222-108 traction tire is an inexpensive normal service item and operators should keep them in stock.
