Well after waiting 48 years for a passenger set, once again, I had to model yet another overlooked item in O myself.

SBD-ACL-SCL ran 3 of the most prominent passenger trains in history from NY to Florida, yet no one ever marketed an SCL passenger set or “F” unit diesel.
Here is a mix n match of the SCL cars. Since we are dealing in O, nothing is ever quite accurate. I matched names and numbers on some and added two fantasy named cars just for fun. Also I removed most of those silly window silhouettes. They really detract from those nice aluminum cars.

I also re-worked an old Lionel F3 for the power.

Now why couldn’t MTH or Lionel do these?

Really good work!

Such a shame you didn't build the sleeper car Tallahassee, which apparently still exists today, as that's the town I was born and raised in:

I grew up in SCL country but long after the F units were gone. For most of my youth, I never saw locomotives that weren't black, as it was either SCL black or SRR black if we headed north into Georgia.

SCL, I'd think, is a railroad that probably has very little sentimentality attached to it as you just don't hear much on it at all and very little SCL stuff gets made in any scale.

Very nice work on the passenger cars but, I didn't know the SCL had any "passenger" F Units, especially since there is no steam generator intake & exhaust on the rear end of your unit.

Thanks.

Actually SCL had a dozen F3’s 336-347.They may have used other types of B units for steam.

I used stock Microscale decals. These are non-scale items on 3 rail which are also non-specific cookie cutter cars. I didn’t strive for accuracy due to that factor, just something to run once in a while as an option I guess?

Like I said, only some town names match the car numbers. Since I lived in the North Tampa bay area almost 30 years, I selected them from the SCL car roster. They are local area town names.

Awesome job SIRT! What a pleasure to look at. I took Lee's place in Tallahassee, but Clearwater, Dunedin, St Pete, Sarasota, Tarpon Springs, Bay Pines, Tampa are my old stomping grounds and the SCL holds a lot of sentimentality for me. I remember seeing long consists of Seaboard hoppers hauling phosphate from central Florida phosphate mines to the Gardinier plant in SE Hillsborough County. The gypsum mountain is still there on the shores of Tampa Bay. Great pics - thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys, glad to inspire!

Always kind words and input from our Jimmy.

Ah Gary, you mean these. I wanted Weaver to do a phosphate U12 hopper but…

SCL wood chip would be nice too.

Just more new cars needed in O.

Finally the first MTH SCL EV caboose will arrive on Fri from Ro. Also ordered the new MTH SCL waffle. Think they are catching on.

Sure would like a string of U12’s but then I would have to order those palm trees on ebay from China.

Think I may have started something?

Steve; I think one reason Lionel/MTH/Atlas"O" and others haven't done this diesel set is the somewhat proven fact that "color sells". Witness the extraordinary sales of AT&SF Warbonnet units throughout the years. I think Lionel's recent release of the Western Maryland Fs were somewhat slow sellers as well as they seem to still be FS by retailers even now. "Black" is somewhat of a hard sell unless the road being modeled (NYC/Southern/N&W come to mind) is one of the more popular roads know by many and not just regionally.

Possibly so D&H, but I believe you’re statement has more to do with demographics in numbers.

The NY area along with the South are far outnumbered by the rest of the country’s R.R. enthuses. No basements or room in Florida either.

On the flip side, I have to think about the abundance of black ERIE and NYC items that span the years within the market place.

The black color doesn’t seem to effect steam on any road name.

Sluggish sales have been with us for some time now due to generational attrition, a flooded train market and a bad - overpriced economy.

Perhaps if someone is spending money in this hobby just to buy colorful items, then maybe they are missing out on the other aspects it has to offer?
