We have two MTH 2-8-8-2 YellowStone locomotives at our museum.  I personally ran both engines separately and they worked fine with the DCS remote.  I received call they can't run the trains.  They had put both locos on the the same track.  When powered up, one started up and the other the bell keeps ringing and chuffing loudly and no movement.  Thinking problem solved by taking that loco off the system.  I then ran the other loco and worked fine and then removed it from the system. I then put the other loco on and turned the power on.  Again the bell and chuffing immediately.

The engine would not respond on DCS or conventional mode.  I can't  reset the engine.  I'am dumb founded.

Hi I would do a conventional reset without tiu in the system! you with get 2 whistle toots and then you'll know you got the factory reset! the try dcs and do a feature and then factory reset everything should then work ok. do reset on separate test track!

To do a conventional reset you must bring up the voltage to !0.00 volt and wait for startup then do mth z4000 factory reset! video below!

By the way Mark I put in a new Duracell 9v.  No change.  I'am charging a MTH battery to see if there any change.

Alan my understanding the museum up graded to PS2.  years ago.  I could be mistaken.  Is there a way the boards would show the up grade?

What is the cost to fix the boards?

Well if a 9V battery fits then the locomotive in question is either still PS1 (so it does not have DCS) or was upgraded to PS2 5V electronics (which does have DCS).
