2-8-8-2 Yellowstone #227cannot be controlled.

Hi I would do a conventional reset without tiu in the system! you with get 2 whistle toots and then you'll know you got the factory reset! the try dcs and do a feature and then factory reset everything should then work ok. do reset on separate test track!

To do a conventional reset you must bring up the voltage to !0.00 volt and wait for startup then do mth z4000 factory reset! video below!

Model number for the malfunctioning locomotive? PS1, PS2 or, PS3?

Z4000, DCS & PS-2, MTH 20-3030-1.  Disconnect battery overnight.  Tried Alans Reset to no avail.

As soon as you turn the power on Bell & chuff start. The only way to stop is turn the power off.

Try replacing the battery from the “bad” engine with the battery from the “good” engine. If that works, you have your answer. Consider it a diagnostic, and therapeutic, challenge!

Hi the item number you gave is a ps 1 prototsound , you're having a board issue. I could repair it for you you can send me the boards and I''ll repair them for you I'm in new jersey!

It's not ps 2 it's ps 1 protosound!

Both have engines work off the same command when run separately.  Something happened to one in the command system when both were started.

By the way Mark I put in a new Duracell 9v.  No change.  I'am charging a MTH battery to see if there any change.

Alan my understanding the museum up graded to PS2.  years ago.  I could be mistaken.  Is there a way the boards would show the up grade?  

What is the cost to fix the boards?

Pictures of the board set will confirm exactly what you have.

Well if a 9V battery fits then the locomotive in question is either still PS1 (so it does not have DCS) or was upgraded to PS2 5V electronics (which does have DCS).

The battery is a BCR (J&W Electronics) It states it is (Not a BATTERY) you power 10v for 1 minute and it will hold a charge for 2-3 hours.  

The PS2 board or the board that's the problem is located in the engine or tender?

Yup. Pop the shell off the tender.

We had three 2-8-8-4 Yellowstones  there could be a mix up.  Anyway that does not solve the problem.  Even on the test track it will not shut down or reset.  

It might be cheaper to do a upgrade if that solves the problem.

The pictured board is not going to do anything in response to DCS.  Also, the only "shutdown" is turning off power.  Finally, that engine MUST have a good battery or BCR to function properly.
