A buddy of mine took this in the So cal area. They look like 2 axle hopper cars. Are they in captive service??? Never seen them in a train. Any info folks???

Lots of good info there......but were you linking a certain post there???
No, just Goggling U.S Gypsum rail operations. You can find all sorts of things.

Google is a good idea......but when nothing matches the cars in my photo I thought I'd ask here. Just wondering out loud......but cool looking cars IMHO
They look to be self-trimming cars with the sloped-in tops, but maybe light axle load for their size. Some kind of captive mineral operation as you say, talc or gypsum I think, but very European looking. Its possible a replacement fleet was imported from a shut-down operation somewhere in the world.

Thanks....looks like them......are they captive on in interchange service???
They are narrow gauge. So I'd say captive.
They are standard gauge. Search the internet on the hopper reporting marks.
