Could anyone help me to figure out why my 2 new WIU's won't work?

I've been "playing" successfully with 2 TIU's and 2 remotes powered by 4 Z4000's for years, the TIU's in Super mode and want to now take adsvantage of wireless control using i-phones.  Both of my WIU's were purchased new-in-box from authorized MTH dealers, one 6 years ago and one 2 years ago.

After downloading the Premier version of the MTH DC App, and for the first WIU, following the WIU Manual instructions for "MTH WI-FI Network Mode" (selecting "MTH" on the selector switch, connecting one of my TIU's, powering up the TIU with its red light blinking, and powering up the WIU), we get the WIU power LED and the LAN LED to come on - but no TIU LED, no WiFi LED and NO sign of the promised "MTH DCS" network becoming available.  Even reversing the order of applying power makes no difference - NO MTH DCS network !

Since we have the latest Gen 3 modem providing reliable WI-FI to all areas of my home, we then tried the alternative  "Home WI-FI Network Mode" per the WIU Manual (by setting the selector switch to "Home", connecting its TIU, powering that TIU and powering that WIU), only to get the same result - only that WIU power LED and that LAN LED come on and no TIU LED, no WiFi LED and NO sign of the promised MTH DCS network being available.

Then as a last resort we tried hard wiring that WIU directly to my home modem, followed the steps in the WIU Manual and got the same results - WIU Power LWED and LAN LED both light up but no WIU LED and no netrwork being offered.

We then repeated all three ways with the second new WIU attached to my second TIU, with the bizarre result that BOTH "MTH" and "Home" methods failed on it too!!   Common sense says its unreasonable that both new WIU's are defective.  Maybe one - but how unlikely both?

The WIU Manual and Barry's Companion book both suggest the same steps I've tried  - so really need some fresh insight as to alternative steps we might try now!

Many thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Stew

AFAIK the latest version is

WIU_1.1.0.bin"

Not the WIU, it's the TIU's version that makes the difference if it will connect or not.   I had the same issue, and the instructions tell you the minimum version the TIU must be on (5.0 or above).  Once I upgraded TIU to latest (6.1), WIU connected immediately.

Alan and Sean,

Thanks for the fast replies.

Both TIU's are 6.1

Not sure what version the new WIU's are.  How do I check?

Thanks,

Stew

Well Stew, you aren't able to check.

Let's cover some basics:

This is an off the shelf wireless router module based on a common chipset. It runs a tiny operating system and on top of that runs what you might call the firmware application known as the WIU function.

The point being- if you NEVER get a wifi light- you are not getting the module to boot into the WIU function, and if there is no wifi or network, you have ZERO CHANCE of being able to get to the LUCI interface to even be able to see the firmware version.

The TIU has nothing to do with it, nor does the firmware versions because you are not even getting to that point or function of the firmware in the WIU.

In other words- this entire topic is the definition of futile. Trying to make a dead object that won't boot, boot, and and then wonder why it's not working.

Again, it is NOT required to plug this into a TIU or anything else other than power for the most basic functional test- will it boot and stand up a wifi network- and the answer is no, apparently your modules have become corrupted, and so everything else you attempt is just beating a dead horse.

Thats true but I don't think he tried just powering up the WIU by itself not connected to the USB cable.

Stew, have you tried just powering WIU by itself not connected to anything?   Lights should Power on in order - Power, Lan, WPS, TIU, WiFi.   Since it won't be connected you should see - Power, LAN blinks, the WPS Blinks, then Wi-fi solid.
