Acquired a MTH 20-20107-2, 2 rail Tri Rail diesel and want to convert it to 3 rail.Bought MTH 3 rail wheel set kit, as recommended by LHS who said this is all I needed, but now realize the 2 rail locomotive came with fixed pilots and no couplers with the locomotive. Is there a kit one can get from MTH to swipe out the complete wheel set with wheels and pilot with coupler installed?I am not familiar with two rail and I assume the lack of couplers is a part deficiency.I could not find parts schematic on MTH site.Any help would be appreciated before I contact MTH .AL B.

Its not uncommon in 2 rail to need to supply your own couplers, so you'll need a set of kadees or the like. The pilot is fixed, there's no swinging replacement for it, the swinging pilot model is the -1 suffix.
Why not attempt a trade?
don't forget a Kadee will hook to a three rail knuckle
Al B,
If you have 072 or larger curves, you do not need the swinging pilots. The MTH 2-Rail Scale locomotives do not come with Kadee couplers, but they are easy to install.
If you are trying to run this 3RS Scale locomotive in sharp curves, you will probably be in trouble and would be better off to trade it for a "normal" Hi-Rail unit with swinging pilots.
Thanks folks for all input. I have switched out wheels Ok. I have installed Kadee couplers in powered and non powered.I have all 072 so I should be Ok.I feel better now.Al B
If you do decide you want to run on tighter curves, MTH does sell the pilots and the loco can be converted to swing pilots. The fixed pilots come off and then the swing pilots install on the trucks. You'll also need to get the shorter hand rails, as they end above the steps on swing pilots.
