I got a great deal on a desired engine, even though I said I was done! (thank you Trainz!!)

I put her on the bench for a quick look. The PS2 3v battery measured around 1.8 volts no load, so I charged it first. After a few hours it measures around 2.4 so we'll see how it goes.

The engine looked like a shelf queen, so it needs some cleaning.

I gave it a quick vacuum job. Then some wheel cleaning. Finally, some compressed air.

I oiled the main areas, but it seemed not totally necessary. I figure do it now!

Next, she hits the test track. I hope she runs.

She runs well.

No smoke? The smoke motor was noisy. I pulled the impeller and added a drop of oil to the shaft. It spins good

I put it back together and smoke comes out the bottom. I blew down the stack but no good. I swapped the wires on the smoke fan as they were clearly swapped at the factory. I put it back together. Still smoke out the bottom. I've had it apart four times.

I will test the smoke unit on the bench and see what the problem is.
