I saw the new RTR catalog from Lionel and there was a lot of nice stuff. I really liked the NJ transit work train itlooks very cool and seems like a great value, the train station has it listed for 269.99. It has railsounds, 5 very nice cars. All the cars seem to be nice play value considering you have a dump car and three flatcars with two tractors and trailers. Also a nice bawindow caboose. All cars also have die cast sprung trucks. It also comes with the CW-80 a fast rack oval and uncoupling track. I also liked the smiley face water tower with bow tie it looked like a nice addition to the layout. These are probably two items I willorder for sure I am also thinking about the Sp 0-8-0 set. The NJ transit seems like a very good value and a nice looking set. What do you guys like?

Lots of nice looking sets. I will be getting the new Lone Ranger add-ons, and some of the new Halloween stuff, and the Heinz vat car. I might be tempted on the Titanic set if I can get it for a good price in order to get the mint car (I don't think a lot of dealers will be breaking up this set). Won't make any firm decisions until I get my hands on a hard copy of the catalog.

I like the Halloween searchlight car and haunted passenger station.
Nada as in nada dern thing

I like the Kansas City Southern GP-38, but I'm not interested in buying the whole set.
I'll wait until a dealer is breaking these sets up and just buy the locomotive.
Likewise with the Rock Island FT--I'll buy the locomotive from a set break-up, and probably run it with Conventional Classic Lionel Lines passenger cars from one of the sets I already own.
Rock Island FT as a break up. Otherwise ...too many "cutesy" sets.
Very ho-hum.
Yawn. Not really my cup of tea as I'm pretty much exclusively a tinplate guy. The one set that did catch my eye is the KCS.
What I don't get is the pricing variation on the three FT passegers sets, to me they are the same except for road name, NYC, Santa Fe and Wabash, why 3 price points $449, $399 and $369?
Only a few cars from sets if they get broke up. Other than that I'll save some money for LCCA offers on the Horizon.

Different features I guess. The NYC and Santa Fe sets have Railsounds RTR, and the Wabash set has trainsounds. What the difference between the sound systems is, I don't know. The NYC set is also kind of a "Special edition" set I guess.
Nothing excited me! I may pick up the Santa Fe Vista Dome and Baggage add-on cars for the Grandson. The Transit set looked nice if you're into traditional O. Myself, I only buy Standard O or Scale. I'm looking forward to the "2012 Signature Edition" to come. That's where all the "Good Stuff" is.
Nothing for me.
Nothing caught my eye in the RTR catalogue. Maybe something in the Signature Book will.
Cobrabob.
The Kansas City Southern set is a great idea.

Great sets if your into collecting fiction trains but my interest is in prototypical trains so nothing for me. Mind you, nothing wrong with collecting those type of trains (I was a big Star Wars collector at one time). I find myself becoming more interested in scale.
I also like the Sunoco oil storage tank in the AF catalog. It think it would fit in ok on an O27/traditional sized layout.
The Santa Fe gondola in Warbonnet colors will match the other cars they made in 2010 which are really sharp. This makes a nice, nice set.
Also the WP 3-dome tank car and the LI gondola and probably the Cub Scout box car.
That's it except for the UP TOFC from the set (if someone breaks it up).
Its funny that the smiley water tower is prototypical but not to scale
I like the new Long Island passenger set.
I do not like how the Halloween steam engine, tender and the passenger cars are all CLEARLY knock offs of the Harry Potter Hogwarts Express -- rethemed. WEAK!
Does Lionel ever offer Legacy or TMCC versions of the engines in the RTR sets? If not, what a shame. My goodness, at LEAST give us a Legacy or TMCC version of the Polar Express engine from the RTR set as an option for those of us who did not have the budget for the scale edition (I'm referring to me - haha!). I keep hoping for it and it never comes. Sheesh!
Only high probability item for me is the Strasburg crane as I have bought all of the other Strasburg items.
Long Island set is a maybe, but I'm not decided on that yet. Still reviewing.

If I'm not mistaken, this is a first for Lionel. Posting a catalog of rtr sets. MTH has done this for many years, as far back as 2003, w/ the John Deere set on the cover. MTH still has Lionel beat hands down on feature content. None of these sets contain TMCC? Legacy? Odyssey? correct?
Mark - Since 2008 Lionel has done the RTR sets in a separate catalog. They are all online at lionel.com
The Rock Island set looks nice--maybe something for my son. The only thing for sure is the NC Monopoly car.
Scott Smith
The DRG&W General set and KCS set struck me as pretty nice. The SP set looked good too but its a weird combination of mixed paint/lettering schemes - the engine/ vandy tender combo is the best part of it. I was surprised though to see no add-ons for the Wabash Bluebird set...a break from all the other recent FT passenger sets.
Peter
The add-on sets need a refresh. When they started back when K-line was around they changed them every year. It seems they got stuck in place a few years back now.
I am still going to grab one of the Scout Airfix boxcars I collect those. When this one came out it was the first since 1994 or so.
Its funny that the smiley water tower is prototypical but not to scale
Look like it is located at Adair, Iowa? By Iowa Interstate main track?
The Western Pacific Union Pacific Heritage series gondola with covers would best be matched with the Western Pacific UP Heritage series 50' Double-Door Box Car from the Chicagoland Lionel Railroad Club.

Falcon Service
GCT NYC FT set if it didn't have 100th anniversary logos, and B&M milk car.
Lots of fantasy stuff, not my cup of tea.
The Rock Island FT has a neat paint scheme.
John
I like the Rock Island as well, looks like the spring $$ will go into a few more postwar pieces.
Flat car with the Shark Submarine.

Where is this located? I've seen a lot of water towers, but this one's a first. Ironically, that was the item in the catalog that caught my attention.
I like that bow-tie!
Peter
I'm going for the two vat cars. The Heinz Baked Beans vat car looks fantastic!
I'm going to go for the new Boy Scout troop cabin and boxcar, and the Alaska boxcar. As long as Lionel keeps the BSA stuff coming I will be buying it.
Chris
Where are the super streets! ARGH!
Nothing, zip... NADA!

The Super Streets are in the Williams by Bachmann 2012 catalog. You need to go to the Bachmann web site to see them.
