NYC5340,

I have both the 225E and 2025 and I am almost certain they share the same motor.  Both are very smooth and silent running locomotives.  In fact I believe the 224, 224E, 225E and 226E all shared the same motor and are the smoothest running engines of the pre-war and early post-war eras.  The later post-war renditions of the 2025/675 locomotives which sported a 2-6-4 wheel configuration which differed from the early 2-6-2 configurations had different motors and aren't nearly as smooth and silent as the early 2025s/675s.

Agree with above poster , have the baldwin wheel 224E, 675, 2025 from the 1940s all same motor they run like a vintage singer sewing machine smooth and quiet and can pull well.

Also had the spoke versions of 2025 /675 they did not run as smooth and quiet as the early versions and read in book that when the motor switch was made the machine standards loosened.

Sold those eventually and kept the earlier baldwin versions .The very 1st versions i believe had the numbers heat stamped where red the keystone on front would be one of mine is like that.

There are repro fronts that were made as such as well.
