Additional circumstances surround the function of the coupler arm. It drops downward. So it opens particularly on the 031 figure eight portion of my layout.
It is reliable until about the third Round trip then the train is left behind. Then an emergency stop needs to be made to prevent a major train Crossing accident! Here is the movie.
Replacement spring or a specific washer to make the coupler horizontally placed?

Replacement of the spring would be the first part I would replace followed by the coupler head assembly:

I repaired a drooping coupler by adding a washer. It has to be thin enough to allow full motion of the coupler.
Adding a washer takes up the space that the old worn spring has settled to - you are addressing the symptom instead of actually tackling the root.
I will order a few 161593 springs. Anyone have them here?
