Would a 262E look out of proportion pulling 710-type passenger cars? I know they're often pulled by the larger 260E... I like the looks of the 262E but am not sure if it would stand out as too small. I couldn't find a photo of the two engines next to each other to compare. Thanks!

Topher,
Just off the top of my head, I think it (262e) may be too small for those 710's. I have the recently released tinplate 256 Electric loco (one of the largest O gauge models) and it came paired with 710 passenger cars.
If you look in the (I think) 2011 LCT Tinplate catalog, there are a couple of passenger sets that they paired with the 262e. I believe there was a blue/silver combo and a maroon version.
We always say "no rules" in tinplate but my thinking is that the 710s would look better behind a 260e.
EDIT: Here's a shot of my 256 with a 710 passenger car. I know it doesn't give you the comparison with a 262e, but you can see they are large. Especially for O gauge.

Topher,
As was indicated we say no rules in Tin, however the 710 cars are not going to look like you want with the 262E, a 263E would be a different matter.

OK, thanks to both for the advice and the photos!
Topher,
Can you please send me your email...I would like to ask you a few questions regarding tinplate.
Thanks,

On my tinplate layout, I recently got a set of the 710 passenger cars in red. I paired them up with a 260E for the Christmas layout. They look pretty good behind the 260E.
Below is a picture of the 260E with the 710 passenger cars.

Those are great photos, wmtrainnut09! What a cool holiday layout. Thanks for posting 'em! OK, I'm convinced the 260E is the way to go for these cars.
John, that 256 looks much bigger than the cars, IMHO. That must be the reason the 256 was referred to as an honorary STD gauge loco. It is massive, and with twin motors should pull like there is no tomorrow.
Here's a picture of the 262e with the 1695 series passenger cars that both appeared in the 2011 LCT Tinplate catalog.
Proportions work well for the loco and consist. The six wheel passenger trucks do work on my 0-27 curve. But they sure put up a good fight on the Atlas switches. I built the layout late 2010-2011 for the OGR layout contest and was runner up.
Like others before have said, the proportions aren't as significant in tinplate. Just like these two smilies:
Run what you love and let the history (original and/or contemporary playing history's proxy) do the rest.
Post some pics of your final decision!

CH,
Yes, those are the cars I was thinking of from the 2011 catalog. They look good with the 262e.
I’ve also seen the 262e paired with some of the 600 series passenger cars.
johnstrains,
Glad to learn the picture helped out.
If you'd like some close-up's let me know.
There's a fourth car for the set which is cool in premise. I passed (so far) because the 3% curved grades on this layout make the 262e "work" to pull them up when the cruise is set at a pleasant slow speed.
The loco has plenty of power in reserve....just running in conventional without the finite DCS control. If I blip the throttle a bit the loco is effortless at the haul.
I use Labelle's lube's on all my tinplate.
I thought the brass/red wheeled loco looked tough and matches the brass wheel hubs on the passenger cars. I like the red cars as well. I opted for blue because I didn't want this set to look like a "mini me" version of the Standard Gauge Iron Monarch I have.
Though, that would be fun to see.
Best,
CH

I have several tinplate locos in black and one of the nice things is you can match them with just about any color passenger car set, or with an array of colors for freight consists.
Speaking of colors, remembered the other day that I have the repro Red Comet Set on preorder. Talk about a blast of color. Haven’t heard anything on shipping lately which is fine with me. Gives the train budget a chance to rebound.
LOOKS GREAT! Green Strip 260E looks like it was made for that set.
Nice. I had forgotten about the models that came with the colored stripe. In addition to the green, there was also a version with a cream colored stripe.
