I have a post-war 264 fork lift accessory that I am trying to fine tune.  I've checked inside and all seems to be in order with the exception of the buffer spring.  The book says it should be stretched to 1 7/16" but it doesn't say at which point the drive arm should be when setting the buffer spring to this length.

Without the fork lift mounted the mechanism works well, traveling the entire distance both ways.  As soon as I mount the fork lift the drive mechanism will not move the fork lift all the way to the car or all the way back to unload a timber.

Would anyone have more knowledge of these beasts ?

Don’t laugh but; have you tried cleaning the bottoms of the wheels on the forklift and dusting the base it travels on?  I’ve discovered even a thin layer of dust will negatively impact the operation of my forklift platform.

I did that very deed.  The wheels don't make contact with the base.  I even took the upper base off and cleaned the area under it ( where the guide block runs ).

Thought I'd post that I have had success with the 264 forklift accessory.  I removed it, once again, from the layout and worked on it at my workbench.  Had it all part and cleaned everything.  I also adjusted the armature metal bracket that holds the end of the drive string.  This is mentioned in the K-Line book.  This time I did not fasten the 264 down to the layout surface with screws but left it float, with only the track holding it in place.  It runs much quieter now and performs as designed.

Some of the vibrator activated accessories operate better when fastened to the platform.

Thanks for letting us know "The Rest of the Story" Dan. I'm glad it works well for you now.

The 264 seems a little tougher to adjust than any of my other PW accessories. My powerful fork lift wants to tip over the flat car when it comes in to unload. I suspect the spring is too tight, not allowing enough slack as the "forks" hit the load.
