Got this in my email from yesterday.
Why does this say back by popular demand when there is a 3q13 estimated delivery date at the bottom.
Anybody buys these 1:50 highway rigs the first time around? Couldn't find any on ebay completed auctions.

Didn't buy any, but I prefer the pre-1970s look anyway.
Still, it's good to see things like this being offered.

Could it be as simple as not updating the web site/page properly?

So you are saying this is a new run of a previously sold product?
Rather than a bunch of guesses, can anyone enlighten me as to whether this is a first-time run of these models, or if they were sold in the past? (as the web page implies with "back by popular demand"?)
Martin,
These were delivered many years ago by DHS Diecast, before Atlas announced them. Here is a link to an earlier OGR Forum post that has the images of these trucks that I have.

These are just my opinion,
Thanks,

You answered my question perfectly and completely, Naveen. Thank you very much.
I didn't buy any the first time and I won't be ordering any now. The reason is I am a steam era guy. I like Atlas products but I gotta stick to my era.
Martin,
Those trucks look good. Is the 20’ container a diecast model? I knew DHS / Sword imported those trucks but I was not aware of them importing container models until I read your post. Does the container have any Sword markings on the underside?
These are just my opinion,
Thanks,
Naveen Rajan
Naveen, that's a Nooteboome trailer and containers. They are metal (diecast0 containers, but not detailed and under-decaled. Overall I'm disappointed in the trailer and containers, but nobody else makes anything like them, so whatever.
I am pretty sure they are made by Conrad Models in Germany, not Sword.

I own a bunch of sword models, really nice stuff
They are 1:50 Scale and look to be the right size next to my trains
As an accessory to the layout and just sits there in the background I see no reason to pay out $150. for this model. My planned terminal will have to wait for tanker truck service. I would like to see these models produced without so many bells and whistlesas they will just sit there
Hi guys, I have been collecting 1/50 items for the guts of 20yrs now,I recently got a few dozen Atlas O 40/45ft containers and was blown away by the detail, working latches etc,the crispness in molding and finish, paint decals etc,all far superior than any offering from the 1/50 truck world,
It really made me think as to where the 1/50 manufacturers(Tekno,WSI,NZG etc) of road haulage need to be,the tractors and trailers have come along way with the likes of functioning suspension amongst many other features but perhaps they seen shipping containers as "just a load" thankfully Atlas put the effort in to give their shipping containers the stand-alone-as-a-model detail, hopefully the 1/50 guys can up their game in years to come as there is a whole other world of 1/50 out there in road haulage, construction, crane, and heavy haulage that can offer more depth to some layouts
Collectors in the 1/50 world are just as critical of new models, details, liveries etc as guys in this wonderful hobby and we ask for more details, more functions more realism,a bigger bang for our buck and most are slowly getting there, but as far as shipping containers go,they can't get close to Atlas's
