Alaska Railroad stores several locos over the winter months. Here's a few of the passenger HEP engines covered in snow.

Thank you for getting the ball rolling this week, RK! I am back. A "little bird" told me there were Union Pacific locos running the local assignment out of Taylor Yard just outside of Scranton, PA.
I don't go to Taylor very often, because so much that happens is in the dark. But just before sunset, I stopped by to see if the duo was here. The Southbound unit is 8513, an SD 90MAC+H, built in 1998. The two sat for quite a while before the crew put them to work.
This is me trying to be creative, but today's 55+ degree temperatures did nothing to make the trees on the edge of the yard blossom.
Now, we are on the move! 8513 leads the train of 14 salt cars over the Depot Street crossing.
Second unit was SD70M no. 4350, also from the late 1990s.
Salt hoppers don't seem to have a long life. These are in pretty rough shape. Genessee & Wyoming Railroad made their mark in the salt business. It is a rather dense product, which requires a shorter car.
Some of the other rail fans watching the action.
This is a push back into the yard. I think there were other cars dropped off on the North End in Scranton, that they would attach to.
It was getting dark, so I did not stay longer. I hope that you have found something just as interesting in your travels lately.

In late January I had a fun day. It was a fun lucky strike bonus tour that I wasn’t expecting to see after visiting a project of ours.Having projects for the last few years near and on rail has its benefits. SEPTA has a very excellent maintenance facility. This is cool place. All in all it was not a bad week.

Here's a quartet of R C,P & E RR SD40-2's aimed eastbound at Huron, SD this week. This train dispatches later in the evening and really gets moving across the rolling prairie of central South Dakota. The paint scheme reflects the parent company colors, Genesee & Wyoming and the RCP&E logo shows a pheasant which are prevalent out here.
