I didn't think that any of the British steam locomotives where equipped with stokers. I didn't see any stoker equipped steam locomotives on the two trips I went to, what used to be East Germany, either.
Makes sense. Small locomotives with small grates - all across Europe. But wonder if that Russian 4-14-4 (mentioned in locomotive names thread) was hand fired??!!

Probably not. Just put a bunch of Gulag prisoners in the cab as Fireman, since it didn't run much.
I suppose some people find that engine design attractive. But to me it looks like Rick Moranis' character Dark Helmet in Spaceballs.
