The group in Albuquerque restoring 2926 made all new superheaters, although they did re-use the header ends and the cast returns. Making new ones can't be that big of deal. Face it people, with the down-turn of business, UP is most likely watching expenditures and isn't allotting much money for the steam program at this time. Outsourcing repairs isn't in the budget right now, that's probably why not much is getting done on 4014 either, other than the lack of knowledgeable employees.

The "return bends" and the "header ends" are the most critical portions of the superheaters. The SP 4449 crew had all new return bends cast, as well as all new header ends, thus, with proper dry-out procedures after each operation, the new unit assemblies should be good for another 15 years.
