Afternoon Gentlemen (and Ladies):

This is an update to my previous post about possibly 3D printing a dummy coupler to match the four (4) I have in my spare parts bin, as I can't seem to locate any more of them (possibly an MTH coupler installed on their European stock).

My 3D printing guy has had a look at the dummy coupler and says he can do them for around $10.00 each (Australian). He will charge a set-up and design fee of $100.00, and then if 10 or more are ordered, they will come in at $10.00 each.

This looks promising, but the catch will be to source the fine "hair" spring to make sure they remain centered for re-coupling. Without this spring the coupler will be useless, in my opinion. My 3D printing guy is trying to source this spring from "contacts" he has in China, but so far there has been no success. I have included some photos of the original dummy coupler in its fully broken-down form, with some shots of the mystery spring.

Does anybody know where this spring can be found??

Everything is on hold till the mystery spring can be sourced.

You're probably right about the spring GR John.

In the "dummy coupler" application between loco's it's no big deal, but I intend changing the standard "drop link" couplers fitted on my Swiss Buco cars over to "knuckle couplers".

If I can fit just one dummy coupler to the end of selected Buco freight wagons and passenger cars I can then hook them up behind my ever growing fleet of MTH PS1, PS2, and PS3 diesel and steam loco's.

For this very reason I need the "dummy" couplers to remain centered as much as possible to effect smooth coupling, and remain straight when I uncouple the Buco consist using the electro couplers on my MTH loco's. Does this make sense to you???

Alan.....I don't have the STL file at this stage, as I have not proceeded past getting a quote from my 3D printing guy.

Just a side note.......I picked-up 4 packets of Kadee couplers (O Gauge - 804) yesterday and I am surprised just how tiny they are. Is this normal or did the hobby shop supply me with HO gauge Kadee's?

They certainly won't mate with the "dummy" couplers I am trying to 3D replicate. I was thinking of using Kadee's on my Buco wagon conversions, but it looks like I will have to change the mating coupler on my MTH loco's to Kadee as well. Why would I do this when the loco's have electronic uncouplers I can activate from my transformer or remote??

This is getting bigger than Ben Hur!!!
