I am big believer that eventually 3D printing will come of age to the point were it will be competitive with molded parts made in expensive tooling.  While the world certainly isn't quite there yet, things just a bit more interesting.

Apparently the UPS store is now going to have high quality 3D printers.  So if you really want a prototype or if you just have to make a few things for a project, you could upload your files and pick up the finished parts later.  This could be a great boost for the guys who make custom parts or always wanted that one special passenger car etc...without having to spend the money to bring the printer home.

fyi- I am in no way employed by UPS or a UPS store - I just think this is a cool development that could impact or hobby in a positive way

And do we think that UPS understands what the end result should be? I tried to get a HO scale drawing enlarged to O scale . The counter person did not understand the scale ratio that I gave them. But they charged by the sheet for there errors as well.

So you will be charged by the Hour for 3d services.

This will never fly.

Hi Lee, could you give us an idea on what you are making on your 3 D printer If it is possible. And if you could a quick overview of what type of material is used?

Thanks

This is thrilling to think about!  Of course, being a new technology, this will take time to improve and develop.  After all, I just read that not so long ago experts in the industry forecast a worldwide market of "about 900,000" for cell phones.  The phones were too "large and clumsy" and the batteries didn't last long enough.  Can you imagine how many must be in use by now??
