First off, does anyone have a 3D Scanner yet? My question revolves around the resolution of these new scanners ($1k price range) . I want to simulate wood grain on plastic. Can a scanner in this range pick up these grooves maybe .005" or less in width and depth?

Also, I haven't used Autocad in a while but have access to a relatively new version. Is there way to define something like wood grain on the surface of an object with that resolution?

Finally, I see a lot of home type printers only have a resolution of .1mm (~.004"). Are there any in the <$2k range that could even print something finer? Can Shapeways or other outfits that print for hobbiests print this fine?

TIA

Pete
