3rd rail F3 lashup question

I have a 3rd rail ABA F3 set and not sure if I am doing the set up to run them as an ABA set right--what I did was give all 3 the same ID --I put the second A on the tracks power up the tracks and have it set to run in reverse--I then with the power on carefully put the B and the other A on the tracks running forward--so the AB runs forward and the second A is running backwards----It works but dont think this is best way since the A in reverse has its backup light on---any help would be welcome Thanks
