Yep. IMO it's the best of times for 3RS and 2RS.
We're spoiled. But, we've earned it.
We've earned it by financially supporting and encouraging the manufacturers who give us these awesome, mostly ready to run engines and rolling stock at a moderate price point, And for some guys even more awesome high end models that now also come mostly ready to run.
I remember walking into an upscale train store in Manhattan a good while back and drooling over the brass models. All brass. None painted. I couldn't afford to buy them and didn't have the time or skills or interest --to paint and tune them.
