The recent announcement of a second production of E5 and E6 locomotives by 3rd Rail has caused to to wonder if there exists enough interest in a second run on the SD’s ?  I purchased one SD9 in CB&Q black and gray. If an opportunity arose to buy two more in Chinese red and gray I would be the first in line.
What say you?

Always a possibility, but I can say that Sunset is about 2 years out at least with current announcements.  All that is dependent on how the market is though.  Projects that hit production number thresholds first always go to the front of the line.  In other words, never say never!

The first run units are nice.

Yep. My estimate sees a Q into 2023. And big reservation #s get noticed.

@sdmann
The announcement for a second run on these locomotives has become reality, but I am still wondering if the CB&Q / C&S / FW&D units will be painted in the red and gray scheme. I have seen other Q collectors from this forum lobby for a red / gray version including myself.  The 3rd Rail website is still showing Q units as black and gray for pre-order purposes.  Let’s hear it for red / gray.  A positive response to all this is all I am waiting for before I place another order to 3rd Rail.  I have developed the skills to repaint model locomotives but I do not want to employ them for this particular model.

Just saying lots of products competing for your $.  The products come slowly and there’s quite a few to choose from. And the line up just got longer today with New Amtrak offerings !!!!
IMO we are finished with the SD and GP 7s and 9s for awhile. Again - just my opinion.

Not really, esp if you "chop nose" it like Paducha did! Also the PRR models were phase III-never done by a  mfg.

I am interested in these engines.  I am a bit leary on what it said on the radius for 3 rail engines.  The site says "054 Curves, 072 Switches Track or Larger."  SD's

At nearly $800 an engine, I don't want to end up with a shelf queen.  My bigger concern is the 072 switches.

Actually it says "3R (054 SIMPLE CURVES, 072 TURNOUTS AND SWITCHES)"  GP7/9

Any experience from prior runs?

From the previous run. My purchase has wheels, with a standard flange profile, not the large, pizza-cutter, flange familiar to O-gauge operators.
