I have a 1993 4-4-2 anRothe smoke unit is pretty straight forward.  Smokes very strong.  I have a 2003 that smokes very weak.  Same smoke unit wired differently.  The 2003 goes to an on off switch and it is wired to the motor.  Can I wire it like the 1993 version and  thus solving tthe weak smoke production. Excuse the typos the iPad is not cooperating tonight

If you want to get clever, I had an MTH that I converted to TMCC using the ERR Mini Commander.  One of the problems with the Mini Commander is I had no extra output to control smoke, so whenever the track voltage was on, the engine would be pouring out smoke!

I built a small circuit that senses the motor voltage and closes a relay to switch on the smoke only when the locomotive is moving.

Very informative.  I just bought a TMCC Berk from late 90's that is a terrible smoker.  It's new and suspect it's wired the same.  Would that be so, & rewire would help?  I can picture why they wouldn't want it sitting there at full voltage.

Sorry for butting in but it is so close to what I have been wondering.  Thanks, John

I have a PWC Berkshire with TMCC.  I just bought it, new, never run.  I'm used to Legacy but have recently been playing with an old 726 from my childhood.  It spawned the interest in another Berk.  One I could use TMCC.  It would be fun watching it blow some smoke up in the air.  This thread helps me think there may be an option.  Thanks
