53' Containers for New 53' Well Cars???

There is a surplus of shipping containers being stacked at ports all across the country. Perhaps you can grab one of those?

Clem - I know you could use some more 53' containers

Maybe they just want you to use them in international service

Will the 53’ well cars accept the 40’ containers in this catalog? Or just 53s?

Yes, they will accept the 40' no problem. But typically, 53' well cars have 53' containers. And the previous runs of 53' are impossible to find. So I know a lot of us hope Atlas does another run.

I wish Atlas O rerun the 3 unit 53ft well cars. I could use another Pacer Stacktrain car!

I'm just praying for JB Hunt containers. I've been hoping Atlas would do them for year.

+1 on the JB Hunt.  Fedex, Schneider, UPS, Swift, and Amazon Prime would be excellent.  A lot of people would like to see a trailer / chassis made for their intermodal ramps.

I've been trying for over a year now to get Amazon "Prime" or Walmart containers created. Sadly, I cannot get either company's marketing department to respond. Let alone the blessing required to give Atlas permission to run the containers. 

A temporary solution is to contact DigiCom  Designs    www.digcomdesigns.net They sell paper designs for HO containers which you can print.  But they did reproduce some O scale containers for me.  They look pretty good on heavy stock paper.  I reinforced them with an internal support of poster board, and I use the 53 foot containers on top of 48 footers.  They have lots of options.

Certainly a good solution. But I'd rather hold out for the experts at Atlas to make my dream containers

jason mr muffins has undecorated 53 foot containers and public track delivery  has a few.they a rarity.i snagged one at allentown last year

the 40 footers are cool  as well.I see they are still in service,when i am railfanning in new jersey.i see a lot of neat stuff.its a conrail shared asset so NS and CSX share the tracks.congrats on 11000.

I know it's been a while but that last picture taken of the 2 trains and the truck on the road seems to show the trailer behind that green truck listing mightily to the right.  Any idea what was going on there?

I think that is the cover that is rolled over the open-top trailer when it has a load rather than the trailer itself.

I have a set of BNSF road number 255395 A-C 53's and a mixed set of 53' containers that go along with them.  Is someone interested in that set? I bought these from Steve at Mr. Muffins.

I remember reading somewhere that JBH would not license their "artwork". Some years back on ebay, a set of privately done Hunt containers and well-hole flats (six containers and three flats, I think) went for over six hundred dollars! The msrp for the equivalent  commercially available set was around two to two-fifty. Someone really, really wanted those!

PS: I dropped out around four-fifty!

EDIT: K-Line offered a semi done up in Hunt colors, I just remembered as I have one. It was a cab-over tractor and a box trailer.

It would be nice to see Atlas produce some CN containers. They have some interesting artwork

I couldn't find any Atlas O white 53' CSX containers, so I made some from 48' Lionel containters. Alot of cutting. gluing and a bit of painting, but it is possible. And the best part- the doors actually open.

I'm with you, Jason, JB Hunt Containers are definitely needed in O gauge. It's almost unrealistic to see an inter-modal train without them. While we're taking requests, how about some Fed Ex and UPS containers also?

I have made a few custom JBH containers using Atlas  "undecorated" containers and Microscale decals, but it is not easy to get the decals just right. And, undecorated containers are now hard to come by as well.

Thought you might like these. I bought 8 Marten containers when they were released many years ago with intent to repaint them, only finally got around to it now. Decals are from Highball Graphics- they are very thick and hard to work with, but I got it down to a science with some practice. I don’t think these decals were even available when I first bought the containers.

These aren’t fully repainted either, I just sanded down the Marten graphics and sprayed a few very thin coats of white Rustoleum over the area. It’s a very time consuming process. Rustoleum’s white seems to be a lot more pigment rich than other white spray paints, so you can preserve the model detail nicely as long as you’re patient with it. The door ends of the containers are a little bit fantasized graphics wise, because I didn’t want to do any repainting on the doors. It’s not exactly a glaring error.

I too was praying and praying for these from Atlas… but it’s been about ten years since they were first announced, I don’t know how much hope is left. But I definitely wouldn’t mind having another 10+ to go with these ones. 😅

I am unsure if you are looking for a very specific color scheme for the Swift, 53', Intermodal container, but Atlas did announce the Swift container, sometime last year and a recent update to their Shipping Schedule had the Container Ship Date as Jan 26, 2024. So, they could arrive in the US, sometime in March.

I was very happy to see the Swift container offered. My hope now is that they do the plane white Swift container instead of the gray with the shield logo. I know, I'm being picky

I’m with you there… I want the old paint scheme too, without the shield.

Should be seeing the latest 53' containers at dealers soon, Atlas announced the arrival of this shipment at their facility this past week.

I emailed Atlas last week requesting JB Hunt, Prime, FedEx, and Walmart. Y'all should email them too to show interest in these modern containers.

Also email their respective marketing departments. I have been emailing Walmart and Amazon for a few years trying to get enough interest to allow Atlas the rights to use their names. Atlas is on board, just have to get the company's marketing departments on board.
