If you were to pair passenger cars with a 400e...would you go with the comet cars or the state cars? I know that the comet cars are usually paired with the 400e but those state cars are impressive.
Thanks,

I have the smaller comet type cars, they make the 400e more impressive.
I think the #9 is a better match for state cars.

There is only one solution. Buy the State Blue Comet cars to pull with the 400E and the 420 Blue Comet cars to pull with a 390E. Remember the State cars are Brass trim and the 390E is Brass trim. Then you will need a Brass trim 400E and Brass trim 420 cars.
This will give you 2 great looking eclectic sets that combine to make a traditional early Blue Comet set.
Jim,
!!!! And how do you suggest I finance your recommendation? Well I purchased a MIB 3 car two tone blue state set thats on its way. Got it for a great price and Im wondering if I should have got the comet cars. May see them on the buy sell forum in a few days. Need to sleep on it.
Thanks,

Pay cash and buy one set at a time. Go all brass so they match. After all Standard Gauge layouts like Rome were not built in a day.
Jim,
Good advice!

My vote is for the state cars - that is what I run with my 400E when not using a 408E. NOT a fan of the 381E, but am a Brute owner and fan!
Well... just got the Lionel Corp two tone blue state cars this afternoon. I never actually saw these in person before. They are huge and beautiful...but I'm afraid a bit to big perhaps. Be on the look out for these on the Buy/Sell forum at a great price.
