Just some thoughts.  My layout has an oval and dog bone like yours and an oval and figure 8 also, on another loop.  Both have two reversing loops in both direction and require four switches.

I enjoy running the oval and figure 8 more as it can be set to run the figure 8 and let run without further switching.  To run the dog bone, one must keep throwing the top two switches.
