6-13008 lionel Standard gauge Commodore Vanderbilt passenger set - PHYSICAL SIZE ?

They are approximately the size of the Lionel SG Blue Comet cars.

The locomotive and tender are die cast.  The cars, like Art stated, are approximately the size of the Comet cars.  They are stamped tin/sheet metal.  These cars have the 4 wheel trucks only.   A very nice set.

The cars are 19-1/2" long including the vestibules.  They are slightly longer and taller than Blue Comet cars.  They are slightly shorter (in length and height) than State set cars.

Is it possible to replace the Commodore Passenger Coach 2 Axle Trucks with

the 3 Axle Trucks of the MTH LIONEL STATE Cars ?

Do the MTH LIONEL COMET Coach and the MTH LIONEL STATE Coach use the same 3 Axle Truck Part ?

Most of my Standard Gauge trains are down at the club. However I did still have my Blue Comet cars and the Prototype cars for the Lionel Commodore Vanderbilt here at home.

My state cars are at the club as well as my Vanderbilt set so I can't compare those. The Lionel Vanderbilt cars are heavier than MTH's Blue Comet cars

The Blue Comet trucks are 1/2 shorter in length (that's a good thing for your retrofit). They both appear to be the same height from the car bottom. The Standard Gauge Vanderbilt Set was an MTH design. My guess is that MTH would have used their already existing 3 wheel trucks had they built them as planned. I think this would work and may even be a better look for the cars.

Some of the Blue Comet Coaches appear to have a Very PALE Shade of Blue.

Are there different Shades of Blue for the Blue Comet Coaches ?

What are the MTH Numbers for the DARKEST Shade of Blue for the BLUE COMET COACHES ?

There are some variations. One of the biggest issue is the fact that these blues tend to fade over time.

The Great Smokey Mountain RR Museum in Bryson City NC has the large Commodore set on display. It's a beauty! Would love to have one someday. Several of us are hoping to put together a museum here locally in Western NC and between 4 or 5 of us, we have quite a collection of trains to display!

were the inspiration for the MTH LIONEL VANDERBILT Cars ?

The American Flyer 1927  Pullman 4141  and Observation 4042 Cars are more compressed horizontally.

Did MTH produce replicas of the American Flyer 1927  Pullman 4141  and Observation 4042 Cars ?
