And I didn't see switch to lock motion
Found the reverse lock still no forward guessing board issue
That engine was included in a set. here's the link to the manual page 5 discusses locking it in a direction. But, it should reset when power is off for a few minutes.
It could be the switch or the DREU board. Both are available from parts using the product number that you posted. Lionel has 50% off internet parts orders during the 1st weekend of November or Nov 5.
Shouldn't there be 3 wires on the switch
Carl,
Looking at your slide-Switch. It's looks like they using it as single pole switch.
I don't see any solder on one side of the terminal. I may be wrong here.
Good luck, John
I'll have to unplug the switch and see if that makes a difference. Thxs
Please let me know how you make out here.
Thanks, John

Not my switch, it's the Lionel replacement parts photo. It could be Mike's clue that only two wires are connected as you do.
MadMax,
Figure out how to remove the shell. get some close up photos of the board and the bottom of the switch. Edit your post title and add the words" won't move forward". GRJ, GGG or some others that work on these will respond.
There are a few reasons for this and they could suggest how to diagnose it rather than throw parts at it or guess.
If you find a loose wire that would be a bonus. Perhaps a loose connector.
The sound is a separate problem. get it moving first.
Does it have neutral and second neutral for forward or only move in reverse all the time? I would pull plugs and reseat and try again. G
Hi ggg it Cycles from reverse- neutral-forward (no movement)-neutral. Thxs I'll try plumping all the plugs and let ya know
That did the trick pulling and plugging back in the wires fixed it thx's all for the help
Nice! Now you can service and maintain it. Did the connector reseat cure the sound noise?
Well that didn't solve problem. While running forward it will shift to neutral and go back to only running in reverse . So one benefit made the kids laugh at train show going in reverse pushing the looney tunes cars
Update still having problems. It still goes into reverse on its own and will only cycle from r-n-r. but after running it like the it will eventually go back to normal on its own. Another thing I noticed with the transformer throttle @ 0. The loco wants to try and creep along. Could it be just a board issue on the loco
