Is it true that engines that can pull the 600 series Pass cars are also the right height to pull the 2600 series freights?

From what I have and run they look fine so yes.
JoeG,
Jeff is correct but this all depends on which couplers are on the rolling stock and how they have been custom positioned to match up with each other. They are actually different, but can be moved slightly to accommodate each other for hook up, especially when they both have the same type couplers. I often run my 263E Work Train, which has all auto couplers, pulling a 810 Crane Car coupled with a 2600 series Gondola, followed by the 2660 Mini Crane Car, that is coupled to the 800 series Search Light Car, followed by an 800 series Caboose. The Passenger Cars work in a similar manner.

I would imagine so. I think the 2600 series is just the 600 series with the new box couplers, so it should work.
Just remember that box couplers do not the the degree of vertical movement that the latch couplers have.

ron m,
You are absolutely correct that is why I advised as I did, it really depends on each coupler on the individual cars being coupled and how you can match them up, as Car Guy advises, they should be the same in most cases. The age of the cars and the difference in their height comes into play in reality.

Thanks to all. Really appreciate your reponse.

My 259e pulls 600 series freight and passenger cars, 1600 series freight cars, and 2600 series freight cars. The coupler I have on the tender is a combination latch/ tab and slot (repro) coupler I don't know if I have ever used the original tender for it that has a box coupler on it.
These were taken a few weeks ago at the modular club's show:

Sooooo, do you think I can pull 2600 freights with a 249E?
JoeG
Yes I believe a 249e will work with a 2600 freight or 2600 Passenger. The 2600 designates electric couplers. Here is an older 262(same frame and shell as the 249e) pulling a few 2600,2601, and 2602cars. And some 2600 freight cars The tender is a 262t with a latch coupler.
Popeye likes those!
Joe G,
You most certainly can I do it all the time, and now that Guns has upgraded my 249 with ERR, I will do it with slow speed control on different levels of my Christmas layout.
Mine has the original Lionel auto couplers, on the full consist, runs beautifully.

Great! thanks everyone.
