Does the Lionel 76 block signal have the same lanterns as the early switches, or are they different. I have seen some lanterns that have just 2 lenes instead of 4 in them.

Every one I've seen has four lenses and are the same as what goes on the switches. The original box images/instructions I got from the web show discs on the sides but not the actual lense. Would love to see a photo of the 2 disc only type
My copy of Greenberg does note that one housing had all red, the other housing all green including the rings-if I'm reading correctly and the example photo bears that out.
I just talked to a friend in Tampa, FL. that is a expert on prewar Lionel, and he said that the correct lanterns have just 2 lenes. Both lenes are red on one, and both lenes are green on the other.
Ok, So the other two sides are flat with no hole what so ever? Odd..
Actually they came both ways. The earliest Mojave signals came with the same covers as the 65/66 semaphores...with no "day target" rings... and only 2 punched holes for the light to escape. After that they came with 4 same color ringed caps with color lenses, similar to the switch covers.

Awesome! Thanks for explaining Rob. I now know my signal is configured wrong and an easy fix but right after carpal tunnel surgery is low on list
