Well Rich, we know you blew out your hearing running 765, so maybe these lyrics will help.....

Norfolk Southern
By Jason Lee McKinney
V.1
I’ve got a black and white picture of my Daddy from back in his rugby days
He was young and handsome, rugged and sure
With his eye ripped open, blood running down his face
Those were the best of his days, but they’ve long long gone away

CHORUS
Like those Norfolk Southern trains
Life’s filled with pleasure and pain
The engine rolls while the wheels struggle and strain
Like the coal fire burns there’s one hard fact
When it burns out it ain’t ever coming back
We fight the change but we just can’t stay the in one place
Like those Norfolk Southern trains
V.2
I’ve got an old Polaroid picture of my mother and her eyes are bright green
She was blonde and thin, innocent and naive
For the first time in her tragic little life
She wasn’t being told she wasn’t worth the fight
That’s long long gone away

CHORUS
Like those Norfolk Southern trains
Life’s filled with pleasure and pain
The engine rolls while the wheels struggle and strain
Like the coal embers burning there’s one hard fact
Time keeps on moving down the tracks
We fear the change but we just can’t stay the same
Like those Norfolk Southern trains

V.3
I got a lot more behind me than I did yesterday
But I sure ain’t ready for the grave
I got a lot more souls to save and hell to raise
I don’t have much time to waste

Kinda cheesy if you ask me...... and besides( the train geek in me says) the NS was created long after the( coal fired) steam locomotives were out of service....... and of course NKP 765 isn't a NS locomotive

Had the song/video been about the UP it would have been more convincing... still cheesy, but more convincing.

Johnny Cash he is not. Merely adding "trains" to something does not make it good/ great.

On a side note, I'd be curious if the FWRHS got any money/ permission from the use of the 765 video.

Diesel Bob, did ypu get those lyrics from listening to the song or from something posted via text somewhere? If you were able to discern the words from listening to the song, I envy you.

I don't think it is my hearing...my hearing aids handle that OK. I have never been able to understand song lyrics very well...and that problem dates from my high school days.

I liked it but did have to peek at the words.  It's  got a good beat and the back up musicians seem top notch.  Who is this guy and band anyway. Could be a bit hit in  Country Western.

I'm going to put you on the spot.. what's a form "D"?I know there are different forms of train orders . Form A= meeting points. Form B= run a heads . Form C= Right overs.

I'm missing form D  Form E=time orders. and the list goes on.

That footage appears to be from the break-in runs in March 2005. Thats what the consist looks like anyway.

Catchy tune, agree the lyrics could be sung a little clearer, but that is typical of most music these days.

I have to respectfully disagree with Rich. The 765 was retired and donated to the city long before the NKP was merged with the Wabash, or the NS. So IMHO it's a NKP engine and always will be.

A Form D was (is) the mandatory directive form used under NORAC Operating Rules.  It can be used for multiple purposes from issuing speed restrictions, authorizing train movement in dark territory and against the current of traffic, giving roadway workers permission on-track, so on and so on.  NORAC was the operating rules system I hired out under...miss it every day!

That 765 scene was shot on our delayed return to our Casad Shop from the CVSR in late October, 2015. We are just west of Bellevue, westbound and departing from a stop signal where we sat for an hour waiting on an eastbound. The video was shot by Official NS Company Photographer Casey Thomason using an aerial drone so it is an NS video, not FWRHS.

Although the 765 was donated to the city of Ft. Wayne on May 4, 1963, several NKP steamers were donated for display in the last month or two before the N&W merger in October, 1964. A good bit of housecleaning by the Nickel Plate - not knowing what might happen under N&W management.
