Will the 765 be coming down the pittsburgh NS mains or be diverted through or conemaugh???
Replies sorted oldest to newest
It's coming down the tracks next to Rt 65 along the river.
What I would really like to know is on Monday when it heads to Altoona, will it go through West Park on the Northside and what time?
IF ANYONE KNOWS:
WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE FOR THE DEPARTURES FROM CONWAY TOMORROW SATURDAY AND ALSO SUNDAY TO PITTSBURGH AS WELL AS THE SCHEDULE FOR MONDAY ???
I WOULD ASSUME NS WOULD LEAVE THE MON LINE OPEN FOR FREIGHT TRAFFIC AT ALL TIMES.
The Monday move to Harrisburg will be on the Main Line, not the Conemaugh Line.
Rich any idea what time youd be through derry? like am or pm??? Thanks SOO much...give us a big whistle blow :-D
I hate to be a PITA but, is there a MAP. I couldn't tell you what is the mainline for NS vs the not so mainline. Color me an idiot but... Seems a MAP would end all these "Which route is the 765 taking?" questions.
I also hate to be a PITA, but there are rail maps of the NS system all over the internet. Do a little research on your own. Producing a map of the 765's moves on NS just isn't going to happen. It is such a low priority item that it isn't even on the list.
Yeah did that. I see Pittsburgh line, Conemaugh Line, and Mon Line. So it's one of the other 2 that isn't the Conemaugh Line.
Thanks.
Will you be going over the Rockville Bridge? And are you parking in Harrisburg Amtrak station for any length of time?
Marty:
It will be the Pittsburgh line that runs out through Squirrel Hill, Turtle Creek, Pitcairn and so on.
Curt
Thanks Curt. I didn't think it would be that hard.
So what I can see on the map it will cross over the river at the convention center from the North side, correct?
Perfect. I appreciate your very helpful answer.
Now we just need a time. I guess that's somewhere on the internet too.
I didn't see depart times listed anywhere including the official 765 site.
I can't afford to spend the day sitting around on the side of the road waiting for it to show up, so I guess the kids will have to live with out seeing it this time around.
I don't believe times are posted for security reasons.
however if your sign up here;
and pay a small fee you might get orders.
There certainly wouldn't be times released for the deadhead movements as they have to be worked into the flow of revenue traffic and conditions on the railroad can change rather quickly.
Bob
This Monday trip is a DEADHEAD MOVE with no passengers aboard. As we have said a hundred times, deadhead moves do NOT operate on any set schedule.
As I write this on Friday afternoon I have absolutely no idea when we will leave Conway on Monday morning. That is totally up to NS and is dependent on how we can best fit in with the other traffic that will be on the line at the time.
Unfortunately my schedule does not allow me to travel out to the Altoona area on Monday. But perhaps it would be helpful for someone "who's close to 765's departure from Conway" to tweet the departure time once it's known... Or when the locomotive actually departs if departure is that much a moving target on Monday. Otherwise it's potentially an all-day outing for those interested -- which isn't the worst thing in the world, but certainly doesn't need to be, given the multitude of ways info gets communicated these days.
BTW, that GPS tracker may be the best ticket, since it apparently updates movement pretty dynamically... Assuming no service interruptions.

That's all we could ask for is a possible heads up. If it isn't too much trouble. I have the morning free but will have to get back to work late morning. I certainly would appreciate if someone could let us know when she is on the move.
While it certainly possibly "old hat", "routine", or even just a "job" to some, it's not everyday when a steam locomotive comes through town. I hope you can understand the desire for some information if possible, so that we the laymen, might be able to experience this event.
While I am not what many consider a "foamer" I certainly would like to take every opportunity to possibly see the 765 in one of my favorite settings. I think others feel the same way.

I'll try to keep an eye on the GPS off the train and a ear somewhere.
I'm sure once 765 starts moving, someone somewhere is gonna hit the net.
If NS will just loosen up on that 40mph speed cap and let that engine roll, they might find it easier to work into the traffic.
