As a 2-Railer I don't expect much from a Lionel catalog. I am glad to see them continuing the Kadee mounting pads on newly tooled freight cars. I just wish they would offer replacement 2 rail trucks/wheels for them like MTH does. They really make nice cars and I would buy more if I didn't have to convert every one.

I do like the Magnet crane though. That might even find a home on my 2 rail layout

It will be interesting to see how this BTO thing does now that they have expanded it to cover the Legacy diesels as well.

That's quite normal for a Volume 2 catalog, Andrew.

But if we compare 2014 Vol 2 with 2013 Vol 2, I think 2014's is a much better catalog.  The 2013 catalog was mostly an inventory clearance catalog, whereas this 2014 catalog has a healthier balance between old and new product.  Gotta give Lionel kudos for that.

Now what really puzzles me is Lionel's announcing the incomparably fabulous Y6b before folks take delivery of the Big Boy.  I don't know about most of you guys and gals, but the Y6b has always run circles around the Big Boy for me.  The former JLC Y6b had unparalleled detail, and for years commanded premium pricing.  So I wonder if some folks will be tempted to switch their pre-order from a Big Boy to a Y6b.  That would cause a lot of commotion in the marketplace for sure if that happened, but I suppose anything is possible.

For that reason alone... if I were Lionel, I would have held off on the Y6b announcement to the 2015 Vol 1 catalog just to play it safe, since the Big Boy will have likely been in buyers hands by then.

Me personally?  I'm really glad I passed on the Big Boy, because two Y6b's double-headed sound very tempting.  Expensive... but tempting nonetheless.

While nothing Lionel ever really tempts me I do like they have offered engines weathered.  I wish MTH would do small runs of those so those of us who like that realistic look could get them done right out of the box.  I do like the grain elevator being reintroduced too and assembled.  Its too bad I assembled 6 of them already or I'd get one of them.  I do usually pick up a premium set but those were rather disappointing in this catalog.

Happy to see they are offering a lot of operating accessories. I think those should be available all the time. Maybe in their own an accessory catalog even. However, on some of the engine pricing, they hit it out of the park alright, definitely a home run there. The GP30's and Alco switcher's are nice, but the MSRP is way over my budget for diesels. Good thing they didn't make anything in my chosen road name.
