Did Lionel make the 9183 Disney Caboose with a red marker? I sold one on ebay and the buyer insists I had a picture with a red marker, which is impossible. I refunded the purchase, but am confused about his claim that he saw one with a red marker. Any information would be appreciated. Jerry

Yes, Jerry, the one I have is still in the box, and came with the red plastic “marker” lights.
Take care, Artie
Have one on my layout right now. The red "marker" lights are removable in order to get the caboose back in the original box.
So Artie they were sold with the caboose, but were separate in the box. Therefore I have to assume the cabooses I purchased at the time probably did not have the lanterns. Can they still be purchased today? Thanks Jerry
Jerry, they were just small red plastic castings that were sold with the Pennsylvania N5 type caboose, and inserted in small square holes near one end. Some folks probably never noticed them packed in the box. They were also used on the earlier NW2 switchers. I would imagine most parts dealers would have them for less than a buck.
Jerry:
The part number for the marker light is 8111-31 (Marker light-red) and was on the Disney caboose. Brasseur has these if you need them.

All N5C cabooses made in the 1970s and 80s had marker lights. Normally they were taped to the bottom of the car. Whatever you do don’t try and shove the car back in the box with the markers still installed.

That's been my experience as well regarding Lionel using tape to secure the marker lamps under the frame. And definitely yes, don't try pushing the caboose back into the original box with the markers still installed, unless you want to ruin the cellophane display insert and cause bumps, creases, and even tears (if you're really being rough) to form on the backside of the box. Same is true with the bunker cars during that era.
