Don't burn down your house

thanks for sharing that video.
Wow. Thanks, but I think the guy is a little bit over the top. I have a lot of things I worry about but this won't be one. I am much more concerned about that double-sealed quart of toluene I have on the paint shelf in my workshop than the few nine-volt (or other) batteries I keep stored away in common sense ways or have installed in fire-alarms (ironic, isn't it?), toys trains, and the odd remote control helicopter and submarine, etc.
Thanks for posting. Learned something about 9 volt batteries I did not know about.
So is it still ok to lay your tongue across the poles for a good tingle?
I put an older nine volt in my pocket when I was working on an engine. I had coins in my pocket! It generated heat making me realizing what had occurred. I now put electrical tape around the battery covering the posts to avoid fires and to let me know it is an old battery.
I dispose of my old 9v batteries by ripping them open with a pair of diagonal wire cutting pliers to get the two contacts.
A pair of the contacts from two batteries make a good pair of polarized wire connectors.
Or you can separate the two contacts, with the pliers, from one battery and make single connector.
I use these to make removing the layout buildings with lights easier from the layout. Beats those wire nuts.
I also use them to run a wire between lighted passenger cars to help keep them from blinking especially on cars with only one pick up.

I'm sorry this guys house burned down but like Lee this isn't going to be something that concerns me too much, if at all. How many batterys get thrown away everyday? Easily thousands but this is the only fire I've ever heard of happening like this,. The chance my house catches on fire from a lightning strike is orders of magnitudes greater than this way but I don't worry about it either.

i check my fire alarm batteries every 6 months or so and on the average they last 2-3 years before they even begin to show any sign of low voltage under load.
Same here. I was watching that and thinking about his "bag" of perfectly good 9v batteries out in the garage...
Well, they can be quite dangerous:
Thanks.......kinda.......But I had to empty all my trash cans last night at 01:00 AM, IN CASE someone threw away a 9v yesterday while I was gone.....just another thing for my almost OCD mind to think about!
Glad I saw this!
I had lots of them tossed in a basket ...
Going down to dump it and tape the terminals!
