That is outstanding! It is obvious that it is the early version with combination latch couplers, headlights with switches, and of course it is rubber stamped. The 256 is still on my hit list and so if you soon tire of it........!

Very nice Steve. Do the LCT cars match? I heard that Lionel originally had two different shades of orange for the two 256 variations.

It is all original except it has been the drivers. They have been replaced.

I know I stole the image from above, but someone please tell me how opening the box of a new LCT/MTH 256 can even remotely compare to this:
Doesn't happen often, but when you get to find something like this, it's the best that collecting trains can offer.
