A little bit of excitement for some folks between two small towns west of Melbourne (capital of Victoria) here in Australia.

It looks like the heavy rain in the area overnight may have weakened the subbase under the track,  and the weight of that "double stack" freight train travelling over it, was just too much.

Here is the link from one of our national television stations. I personally don't live down there (Victoria), as I prefer the sub-tropical climate of "The Sunshine State" (Queensland), over two thousand kilometers away.

"Fatman" from the "Tinplate Photos & Videos" section of the forum lives in that state (Victoria), but I don't think it was anywhere near his "backyard".

Hey Tom.....you gotta love our "famous" snakes!!!

Don't believe everything you see or read on the internet......the snakes are more afraid of us, than we are of them.

And how else would you go to work, other than in short pants and a short sleeved shirt??????

Well, then of course there are the spiders, the salt water crocodiles, the sharks, and the most dangerous creature of all, the Aussie driving home from the pub after losing the Rugby World Championship to the Kiwis *lol*.

Actually Peter ... that derailment is about 5-10 kilometres from where I used to live for about 15 years !!! back in those days Bannockburn was a sleepy little town and we probably would have heard it ( the track pictured was in between Bannockburn and Inverleigh ) . I rode my motorbike over that track every work day , they dont say exactly where in the clip but going by what landmarks I could see ,yep probably less than 5 kays as the crow flies

Hey Rule292......that's life on the railways in rural Australia......if you don't have a spare loco laying around, just get the Western Star truck out of the shed!!!!!

Kangaroos......did someone say kangaroos. They love to give you a run for your money....had a small one try and jump in through my open car window once, when driving on a bush track to get to a cattle station (ranch). Stupid thing didn't quite get in, bounced off the car door, picked itself up and just kept on going!!!!

Like I said.....that's life in rural Australia.

LOL The vast outback of Sunny Queensland is 70% desert and 25% Hippies "saving" the rainforests by building "Wellness Centres" in them  ( leaving 5% for normal people and Kangaroos)

I reckon it will be a logistical nightmare cleaning up that section of the track as its rich farmland which has had a ridiculous amount of water falling on it lately , indeed like the rest of Victoria , I mean I live in an arid flat plain area , and the flooding literally came to my back door a few weeks ago , another 1/2 inch higher and it would be coming thru the house . I need to stress to our overseas fellows the enormity of that ... that pretty much means the one flood itself was over 20k wide ! ( 12 miles for you northern types) and that particular stretch was just one of many all through a few hundred miles length and 50 miles deep area , which is just the Murray area in the North of Victoria ... Been a crazy year .

Fatman kangaroo story ? ( there have been many of them !) but about the funniest one was when I was riding my motorcycle thru the Otways along the southern coast of mainland Aus ... I was returning home with a few of the mates from a fantastic rally we had attended near Apollo Bay ... anyhoo I was blasting along and my reflexes were dulled a little by three days of sleeping rough ( and dare I say it ? "Generous" libations ) when out of the bush a young wallaby decided it would be pretty cool to scare the begeebers out of me by bounding right in my path ... Now its pretty fair to say he wasn't expecting me to be there either, as was evidenced by his almighty vertical leap OVER my head as I zoomed under his flying form at over 100kph  !!! I looked immediately in the mirror , and saw him land neatly in the sidecar passenger seat of my mate Rusty's Yamaha XS1100 following behind me ... I was in awe! ....

However Barb, Rusty's wife , who happened to be ensconced in said sidecar , saw it a teeny tiny bit differently ! ... There where arms and legs, feet and paws  flying everywhere the entire time it took Rusty to hit the anchors and bring the whole schemozzle to a halt .... At which time Little Wally the Wallaby jumped up , kicked Barb in the head on the way out ( she had her full face helmet on )  and disappeared back into the bush !  Leaving me and Rusty doubled over in laughter and a very upset Missus, not understanding our mirth whatsoever

Only in 'Straya!!!
