Dear Forum,

While at the RPM Forum, fellow O scalers invariably were discussing the current issues and state of OScale 2 Rail. One of the issues that we spoke of is the unbelievable amount of Lionel 3 rail scale equipment that has been produced indirectly for our benefit. Lets spent a modeling moment and share a list of scale Lionel items and perhaps a photo or two of 2 railed models. Hope the posts from other forum members get your modeling juices flowing and realize how lucky we are to be in this scale at time.

Just to put this in perspective, when I came into 2 Rail in 1985, the big talk was Weaver coming out with there plastic RS-3-only available undec initially !!!!     Regards, John P.Dunn Sr.

My new favorites are the Lionel aluminum CF hoppers. They're built strong yet still well detailed. I also like the mechanical reefers. The tank train and  ethanol tank cars are my all time favorite. I need to add bolsters like Ed R.

Now, Lionel has auto carriers in their catalogs. They'll be scale length with operating doors? I wonder if these will look OK with my shorter MTH versions. The price looks large but at just over $100 street price, they'll give me the look of brass.

I'm with you!  Atlas and Weaver give their customers the choice of 2 rail or 3 rail.  MTH offers most of their premier locomotives in 2 or 3 rail and all their recently tooled freight cars are designed to be easily convertible.  And now Andy Peterson has brought us the first ever factory 2 rail MTH freight cars.  Lionel has a bunch of wonderful 1/48 scale freight cars.  If they would just design them for mounting Kadees we would be approaching O scale Nirvana.

Agree with comments above; but perhaps another aspect of 2 rail is there is a lot of estates coming on the market.

Have seen a whole collection boxes of 2 rail Atlas and Lionel freight cars for less then 1/2 the orginal prices.

Also lots of track and layouts coming on the market if you wait and look.

There was a pickup truck load of 2 rail Truescale Road bed, with rails spiked on turntables and bridges for really cheap offered by someone near the July 2011 NMRA show in Sacremento for less then the price of a new loco. Enough to build a full layout.

Have seen others for sale at good deals as well!
