I have no Marklin until now. Picked up this “set” at today’s meet. Actually been eyeing it for a few months. It’s a clockwork and these are not particularly light cars, so the question is, are they a set or just a nice bunch of cars? Seems like a lot for this light loco to pull. I have seen some on line photo's of sets with this loco with smaller 4 wheel coaches.

thanks

Steve

Steve,

These are very nice indeed.  You may be correct that sets with this 890 loco included lighter 2-axle coaches. This is a page from the 1932 catalogue.  See the top line.

And this is a page from the 1935 catalogue.  Now there are 3 coaches included - 2 passenger and one baggage (line 2).

You can see the trend to include more coaches, but did they ever include 4-axle coaches with a clockwork set?  Possibly not.  Here's your 17520 and 17530 listed separately in the 1935 catalogue.

By the way, I have the electric version RV 12890 that was my dad's.  It doesn't run very well and needs some work on the motor as it has almost no pulling power now.
