Beautiful AC9 Doug! Have lots of luck and fun with it. And some really nice Southern Pacific steam power roaming around your neat layout.
Thanks for sharing!
Wow, SP heaven!
Awesome layout...thanks for sharing it.

Excellent video and beautiful engine. Love those safety chains between the cab and tender shown at the 3 minute mark.
Layout looks exceptional.
The layout is amazing! Your attention to detail is superb. Can't wait to see what you do with the diesel fueling station.
Like Wow • Great roundhouse & action.
• Cheers from Michigan
That is just the kind of train porn I needed to see today, thanks for posting!
Love the scale couplers and the authenticity between the crew cab and the tender.
But the turn table did it for me, that is spectacular. Congratulations on your layout, you have reason to be very proud.
Gads but that was impressive--thank you ever so much for sharing.
Sweet!!!!!
A masterpiece!
Pete
Talk about being under the microscope: 1080p HD full screen!
Terrific video--really enjoyed the roundhouse/turntable scenes and introducing still shots, as well.
Thanks for taking the time to produce the video, and sharing it with us.
Nice!!!
Ahhhhhh Doug just want i needed to see, thanks for a great video. I really enjoyed it.
I really like the safety chains between the engine and tender!!!!!!!
THE LAYOUT LOOKS FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks again,
Alex
Thanks for the nice words guys. I also shot footage for Video Update #6, but it hasn't been put together yet. I edited this video in my car this morning while I was at work You can pretty much see the progress of the layout from this video anyway. Hopefully I'll get the next one up in a few days.
Spectacular model, spectacular scenery, spectacular operation, and spectacular camera work. Might be the best video I have seen of model trains.
I do not see the authenticity between crew cab and tender - but I know that is a 3-rail compromise. And anyway, the fireman does not have to shovel coal for this beauty; it has a stoker. Otherwise, he really would need a cab.
And for 3-rail, even the track looks quite good. Is that hand -laid?
Great video. I love the detail inside the roundhouse. Where did you get those work platforms?
Doug great job it was great to see your engine terminal that I admire come to life and oh sharp engines even if they are not NYCRR.

No it doesn't, as it is an oil burner. One of the conversions which used a former C&O H-7 2-8-8-2 forced to the UP during the war. After the war, the UP quickly took all those former C&O 2-8-8-2 locomotives out of service, and the SP purchase almost all those HUGE C&O tenders, converted them to oil, and placed them behind some 2-10-2s and some AC-9s (notice the tender trucks are the Commonwealth type, instead of the standard SP Buckeye type).
Doug,
There's only one problem with this video-the engine facility isn't mine!
Seriously, you are building a world class layout.
I love the 3rd Rail SP AC-9, such a beauty! The PFE reefer train is awesome!
We expect to see a similar video of your new VL BB!
And for 3-rail, even the track looks quite good. Is that hand -laid?
Thanks Bob, no hand laying for us.... Gargraves and Ross turnouts
Concerning the two PFE reefer trains; I counted 6 of those special aluminum experimental PFE reefers. If I may inquire, how did you accomplish that?
The video is truly outstanding, by the way!
Very nice!
Doug
A splendid engine servicing facility.
I especially liked the N&W J

Thanks Jack, I was waiting for someone to ask why there is 6 I know... there was really only 2 but Lionel made 4 so I bought all of them. Then Atlas made some and I think those belong to my Dad. I was going to weather mine and sell them, but never got around to it. So we have a six pack now.... oh well, I always like 6 packs they just don't last very long.
Yeah, I knew some of the AC-9s were oil. In this case, I suppose a small section of the Keystone Pipe Line would work. No taxi required.
Seriously, that is a truly good model.
Beautiful video!! I have the 2-rail coal version. when I redo my outside track, I will attempt to post a video, along with a bunch of cab forwards.
A beautiful engine and a nice layout around it, too.
Thank you. I really like that loco.
Great looking engine (apart from the distance between cab and tender) and nice layout. Maybe Lionel will be inspired to reissue their AC-9 with Legacy!
Doug....I loved it!! Very nice video and the engine service area is masterfully done!! When are you coming to my place to mine into shape???
Alan
Great video., Doug.

My travel budget only covers up to 100 miles Alan, that way I can make it to my closest hobby shop and 2 different train clubs
Doug, Great video,, great loco and great layout!
What camera did you use to video everything??? Shots were really well done.
Ron
Very impressive, love the AC9 and the entire layout.
Great video. I love the detail inside the roundhouse. Where did you get those work platforms?
Doug
Would like to know where you got those work platforms inside the roundhouse.
Thanks
John
Beautiful engine and layout! Love the detail on that engine (chains from the cab to the tender). I need to find an excuse to fly out to California and see it in person.
Thanks for posting a video.

Sorry John, I missed your question.
Those are from Dave at Crescent Locomotive Works.... he lists them on Ebay on a regular basis, or did! I got them direct from him, through his website and when I talked to him at York last year. He also built the ash pit/hoist that's in the steam service area.
I don't think I can post the link because he is not a forum sponsor, but you can look up Crescent Locomotive Works on Bing or Google.
Great video. The roundhouse, turntable and service tracks are really impressive as is that backdrop. I've alway an eastern road guy. I must admit the SP articulated steamers are pretty cool.
An "ash pit" on the SP, in southern California??????
